THOUGHTS ON FRESHMAN YEAR OF ART SCHOOL
Cassy Sicherer, a student at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, one of the country's top art schools, shares her early experiences at the school's BFA program. She describes stereotypes and stigmas she faces from her peers as well as the difficulties and joys of a modern art education. Black ink-stained nailbeds and chalk cannot compare to the thrill of being part of a community of your peers, pursuing your passion, and simply making things. Cassy engages in social and political activism, and is a loud voice for LGBTQ+ rights. She has worked on several congressional and NYC council campaigns. In the future, she plans to either pursue political activism in the form of a non-profit organization or enter rabbinical school.
