JENNIFER MACK WATKINS'S CONTEMPORARY WOODBLOCKS

Jennifer Mack-Watkins may use a centuries-old artmaking technique, namely Mokuhanga, or Japanese woodblock printing, but her work was made for the 21st century. Mack-Watkins's images address issues of representation and empowerment of people of color and women, to explore the interior and exterior beauties that surround them. In refuting stereotypes and and breaking the constructed superficiality that often surrounds beauty, Jennifer Mack-Watkins calls attention to those that the canon of art history has periodically ignored.
