Harder to Reflect: a deinstallation

KATE DODD'S STORY

Kate Dodd has faced challenges in the process of installing site-specific pieces. In 2017, her piece Harder to Reflect in South Orange, NJ, had to be taken down. The piece is located in a vernal pond and floats on water, intended to rise and fall with the level of the pond. The work is made of mason line, surveyor's tape- designed to mark property-fitting in a site-specific installation which marks a landscape , cable ties, and acrylic mir. The mir was intended to follow each major line of the tree. The materials signify construction and due to the bright orange color, the materials delineate the natural surroundings and once the water would fall, would mark the branches and structure of the tree.
