In the Whisper of Silence
MONA BRODY COLLECTS
Mona Brody synthesizes the familiar with the remarkable, the natural with the synthetic, and the bizarre with the extraordinary. Her spontaneous paintings reflect the sublime as well as the contemporary experience of the human condition through a sociopolitical lens. A self-described collector of things, Mona links what can be found in the natural world with what is man-made by exposing what makes both sublime. Californian tree pods and barks quickly blossom into beautiful brooches encrusted with gold leaf and freshwater pearls. Fish hooks come to embody the human form, wrapped in gauze and beeswax. Brody currently teaches at Pratt Institute.
